Hi all! I went to a convention this April. I had a lot of fun! It was a pretty small one, but it was closer to me so it was definitely worth it. I attended it with my friends Tiktaclik, Strawberrycreampuff and their sister Mr Jester! We attended the con as a group and had a lot of fun going around.
I look... Insane.... Accurate.
I woke up in the morning and started working on my makeup. I bought denture cream, and luckily it worked very well to hold on my fangs! Unfortunately, about ten minutes away from the convention I realized I felt too uncomfortable with the taste and feeling. Ensue about eight minutes of gagging and trying to work all of the gross denture cream residue out of my teeth while my epic older brother gets lost! Haha. Our drive was a bit longer than expected... We... Got lost three times.... It was so awesome of him to drive us though, and it was really fun listening to their music! My bro is really cool, guys. If you meet them, tell them that!!!
The rest of my makeup went pretty well. It's not my best execution of this look, but I thought it looked very serviceable considering that I was short on time! I experimented with lipgloss. Interesting. I sort of liked the look, but it was uncomfortable especially with the fangs.I might try it again with lipgloss as a base and black eyeshadow. Maybe that would be more comfortable?
Walking into the con was super fun! Strawberrycreampuff and his sibling yelled hi from up on the balcony, so that was exciting. They introduced us to a person who had seen them earlier, and that person showed us a photo of their Eridan cosplay. It honestly looked SICK AS SHELL! ;) We doodled some Homestucks on the doodle wall, and I made a beeline for the bathrooms. When I came out, I ran into a pair outside the bathrooms who asked for a photo! It was super fun and we chatted about merch. Since I don't have a dedicated con bag, I just tied a bunch of my plushies (and borrowed Strawberrycreampuff's Karkat plush... thanks queen) to the straps of a target bag. One of them mentioned they had wanted to talk to my other friends they had seen, but hadn't yet. I told them we don't bite! I loved getting to surprise people with the candy in my lollipop! It's honestly just so cool to see how people react to it. Plus, who doesn't love free candy? Only one person declined.
I also had some funny interactions. One person asked me if I was coslaying Vriska... Guys. Guys. WHERE DID I GO WRONG???? Haha! Another person told me not to wash off my makeup in a bathtub. Oh, you sweet innocent soul... Thinking that's what the sharpie bath was. I was doodling Kris and Susie on the doodle wall, and a pair I met earlier came up behind me and said "Deltarune Tomorrow" and I was like "DUDE!! THAT'S LITERALLY WHAT I WAS ABOUT 2 CAPTION IT!?!? :O" so that was awesome.
Unfortuntely, the artist's alley had an issue. There was a point in the back where it became a really tight space between a couple corner booths. The first time we walked through there, it was incredibly crowded and difficult to move in. The second time it was less crowded, but still very rough. I'm planning to email the organizers because that setup felt like a safety issue, and it especially did not feel like there was enough room for people with large mobility aids to navigate through the crowd there.
Overall, I felt like I had a really good time with my friends! Despite the rough weather outdoors, we still had a blast inside. I came home very tired, and very ready to procrastinate doing Calliope's maitenence! :D
Dabbing on those haters...
Titaclik returns!!!
I look deranged. Ignore the bobby pin. I'm just channeling my inner Calliope.
Gosh my friends are so cool.
I trick-or-treated as Callie, which was fun. Afterwards, me and my friends were chilling in my chum's house, and someone saw me through the window and recognized The Fabled... Homestuck. We all went out very excitedly. Alas, the person only recognized Homestuck and was not familiar with the characters, but it was still neat.
Also, someone walked up to me in the morning and said "Homestuck? In 2024?" Bless them and their Mettaton-adorned backpack.
