WHAT'S HOMESTUCK: BEYOND CANON?

Well, you see-

WAIT A MINUTE

WHAT'S HOMESTUCK?

Alright! Let's start from the top. Homestuck is a webcomic written by Andrew Hussie. It began on April 13th, 2009, and ended in 2016. The comic has multiple spinoffs, including a point and click adventure game, visual novels and more. This part of my site is dedicated to Beyond Canon, a semi-official sequel to the original comic.

WHERE CAN I READ HOMESTUCK?

Unfortunately, the official website has been losing its quality for a long time. When Adobe Flash died, many of the animations and minigames included in the comic lost functionality and were not restored. During recent months, the site has become steadily more unusable and rarely loads.

Luckily, there are dedicated fans running projects to archive Homestuck forever! The Unofficial Homestuck Collection restores the functionality of the flashes and has a new reader mode! It works offline on computers. Note: It is also going through some trouble currently, but you can find the application and second asset pack in the previous link. The first asset pack can be found here on the internet archive. You will need both for the collection to function!

An online option is also available here. The flashes might work if you have the ruffle extensions installed! I've had some issues with longer flashes, but that is most likely on my end.

OK, BUT WHAT IS HOMESTUCK ABOUT?

I'm glad you asked! It's a little hard to sum up, because it's a pretty long comic. Longer than the bible! A lot of things happen. But generally, the story follows four online friends who decide to play a game. To their surprise, the game brings about the destruction of their world- along with a chance to create a new one.

They get into a LOT of shennanigans along the way... Uh, they meet some dudes. These dudes have gray skin, and candycorn orange horns. If you've been on the web (and especially if you've been on this corner of it!) you've definitely seen a couple. Feast your eyes, I guess.

Yeah, they look familiar? Yeah. They do. No? No? You don't think so? No. They look familiar. Trust me.

Okay! There's something important I have to mention, though... Content warnings.

Homestuck is a LOT. It's full of profanity, contains slurs, and pretty much everything under the sun. There's a list here that I would highly recommend looking at before you read Homestuck.

SO WHAT'S BEYOND CANON?

Ahhh!!! Here's my favorite part! Even though it's kind of sad. Beyond Canon is a sequel to Homestuck. Originally, it was called Homestuck^2, and it was written by the same team who wrote the epilogues of Homestuck. Homestuck has two epilogues that follow two different timelines. The project was directed by Andrew Hussie and they wrote it with a team. Unfortunately, the team working on it put it on indefinite hiatus because of harassment and threats that the team was recieving. While it is completely fair to analyze and criticize a work, hating on it and sending threats to the authors is extremely inappropriate behavior and should not have happened to the team.

Three years later, the comic returned under a new name: BEYOND CANON. Beyond Canon was headed by a new team, called the HICU. This handy-dandy name stands for Homestuck Independent Creative Union! Basically, the HICU gets licenses to make cool merch to support their projects. A new team began working on Beyond Canon, and it's been updating ever since! Updates returned around the time that I began reading Beyond Canon. I consider myself to have officially joined the fandom when I attended Stuck At Home Con 2024. This was also the same day that I caught up to Beyond Canon! Inbetween panels and chatrooms, I finally caught up- But not for long, because about a day after the con the team released a new update! I've been hooked on Beyond Canon since. You can read it at beyondcanon.com, which is thankfully a very functional website!

WHAT'S THE PURPOSE OF THIS SITE?

Well, first and foremost, my own joy and whimsy! I want a place to write rambly liveblogs and dumb analysis posts. I post fanart here. I just want this site to be a cool place for me to think about Beyond Canon, and a fun experience for any fellow fans who come across it! I think that the Homestuck fandom has a pretty strong culture of indepdent websites hosting fan resources, and that is something that I really enjoy and want to participate in. Some of the most special experiences I have had interacting with this fandom have been coming across beautiful websites and getting sucked in to explore them for hours. I want to make a fanpage to keep that experience going!
